Navigation - Distance Measuring Tool

The Distance Measuring Tool is used to determine the number of miles between two or more points on the map. When you select the Distance Measuring Tool, two text boxes, labeled Total and Segment, appear at the top of the map. Total contains the sum of all of the distances you have calculated and Segment contains the distance of the current segment. When you place the mouse over the map, the mouse cursor changes to a plus sign, like this:

To use the Distance Measuring Tool, place the mouse on the first point for which you want to calculate a distance, then click the left mouse button. As you move the mouse you will notice the Segment text box displays the distance from the first point to wherever the mouse is located on the map. When you click on another point, the amount in the Segment box is added to the Total box, a line is drawn between the previous and current point, and the process starts again. Click another point on the map if you want to measure the distance from your last point to another point.

When you are finished with the distance tool, you can click on any of the other Navigation tools, except Clear Selection, and the lines that were drawn will remain. If you no longer want to see the lines, click on the Clear Selection tool.

NOTE: If you click another point on the map before the application has had a chance to draw the line from your previous point, a message will appear stating "Response from previous request(s) not received." This means that the application is still processing your mouse clicks. Please wait until the application has drawn a line from your previous two points before clicking another point.
