The Map area is the focal point of the Flood Zone Application and where you can get your questions about flood facilities and features in Clark County answered. As you perform queries using the Query area, or identify features using the Identification area, the map will update to display the information that you requested.
As with physical maps, the Map displays lines and symbols that represent a geographical region. The positioning of the elements on the map are depicted as they appear in the real world. A compass to denote direction and a distance scale are included to help you relate the map to the real-world features it is depicting.Internally, the map is comprised of many layers, which are representations of the data that relate to a particular feature. For example, the parcel layer contains all of the information necessary to display a particular parcel of land on the map at a specific position. A layer is see-through, like a sheet of onion paper, so that anything displayed "beneath" the layer will show through. These layers are laid on top of one another and, all together, make up the map. The following example describes how this works.
| Channel Layer | Street Layer | Basin Layer | ||

Displaying many layers at one time may become confusing as the data on the layers overlap each other. If there is too much information displayed on the map, or if certain features are being identified that you don't want to display, you may want to try using a different View. Information about the different view settings is available in the Views section of this help file.
Once the map is displayed, you can use the Navigational tools, Identification buttons, and Query buttons to interact with the map and answer questions regarding flood facilities and features.
NOTE: It is important to never click on any of the other navigational tools, any of the buttons in the Identification, Views, or Query areas, or anywhere on the map while the Retrieving Map notice is displayed. Doing so may cause the Flood Zone Application to fail requiring you to exit your browser and restart the application.
